Notes: The wonderful odd, round shape of this quartz crystal gemstone gives this diamond character.
A well defined 7 sided key mark near one tip shows best with a loupe. This area also holds anthraxolite.
The anthraxolite suspends itself mainly internally, surfacing just a bit in the key mark. Anthraxolite is decayed plant material that fossilized. This quartz formed millions of years ago in what was a shallow sea bed; now the middle of New York state. The anthraxolite in this gemstone could be the fossilized remnant of a stromatalite, an ancient ocean plant.
More than 95% of the Herkimer is water clear. The black anthraxolite gives a brilliant overall hue.
The round shape, excellent clarity and happy feel of this quartz crystal gemstone make it a special gem.
