Notes: The odd shape and inclusions made this Herkimer quartz crystal difficult to photograph. It is a beauty none the less.
One larger facet dominates, skewing the shape. Specks of anthraxolite surface here.
A ghostly inclusion dances in the center of the stone. Inclusions occur when a solid, liquid, or gaseous foreign body encloses itself in the quartz during the growth process. Inclusions add not only authenticity to a real Herkimer Diamond, but can create gorgeous rainbows.
What really draws me to this Herkimer quartz crystal are the sparks of rainbows glittering throughout the gem. They are reflections of light through the clear inclusions.
