This is a water clear Herkimer quartz crystal.
While no one knows for sure what gives Herkimer Diamonds their fantastic clarity and brilliance, most all miners have their theories. There is a slightly different ratio of carbon to silicon in a Herkimer, as compared to normal crystal quartz. Anthraxolite, a carbon
mineral, is found both inside the diamonds and the surrounding ground. It's possible this high concentration of anthraxolite, could have filtered the water surrounding the crystal's growth, much like charcoal is used for filtering. Herkimer quartz crystals are an aqueous crystal, they were formed underwater.
This particular water clear Herkimer quartz crystal has a small speck of anthraxolite in the center of the stone.
