A beautifully matched set of fine Herkimer Diamonds. Both gems are double terminated with a long shape.
When the Dutch settled the land around Herkimer County, NY, they found the Herkimer quartz crystals in the soil and matrix stone of dolomite. Thinking they were actual diamonds, they were actually used for currency for a time. Alas, it was discovered the Herkimer Diamond was merely quartz, but it is one the most spectacular quartz crystals Mother Nature created.
