As befits any AA grade Herkimer quartz crystal, there are double terminations, 18 perfect facets and excellent clarity. Additionally, a six sided key mark is seen with a loupe and in the photographs.
There’s much local lore on how the diamonds were first discovered. One story claims that a couple of Revolutionary War soldiers found some loose diamonds in the dirt. They truly thought they were real diamonds and were sure they had struck it rich. When word spread to their commanding officer, the well known General Herkimer, he thought to help finance the war with the diamonds. After a mineralogist examined the gemstones, alas, they were proved to be merely Herkimer quartz crystals. Still, they are more rare than a real diamond.
