A Herkimer Diamond with a lustrous hue and an interesting shape. The photographs capture the slight skew of the gem.
Several theories exist regarding the extreme clarity of Herkimer crystals. Herkimer's formed in vug's, or pockets beneath a shallow sea bed. Anthraxolite, a relative of coal is found in many of these vug's. Perhaps the anthraxolite acted as a natural water filter.
It is the excellent clarity as well as 2 termination points that make Herkimer Diamonds so rare. They are actually more rare than a real diamond!
