Two double terminated Herkimer Diamonds joined near the bottom facets forming this twin crystal. The pictures really don't do the overall gem justice.
Wikipedia describes crystal twinning occurring when two separate crystals share some of the same crystal lattice points in a symmetrical manner. The result is an intergrowth of two separate crystals in a variety of specific configurations. A twin boundary or composition surface separates the two crystals. They
have been used metaphysically to help find our soul-mate and promote togetherness.
A striking skeletal mark is seen looking into this convergence point (a loupe gives the best effect). The joining sparks a delicate sparkle of color.
Extending out from each other at about 45 degrees, one gem measures 9x6x6 mm. It has a clear, but ill-defined key mark on 1 facet, or face. The other crystal has an unusual shape, reminds me of a kite. Measuring 10.5x7.5x6 mm, the clarity is awesome as the pictures show. It's a shame one of the terminations is blemished.
A smidgen of anthraxolite is found on both Herkimer Diamonds in this twin crystal. |
