Both Herkimer Diamonds in this set have one thing in common, blown-out
enhydros. Enhydro means water within. It is very rare to find a
Herkimer Diamond that contains this bubble of fluid intact. Most
times, the bubble of fluid explodes, usually due to temperature
changes. The result is an area on the crystal with a BB like indentation.
Sizes and descriptions of stones as follows:
- The blown-out enhydro covers 2 facets on this 14x10.5x6.5 mm
Herkimer Diamond. Another facet has a clear divot from crystallized
anthaxolite that grew against it. The majority of facets are complete
with sharp lines. Internally, the gemstone is very clear with
one small growth mark. It's shape is fairly flat.
- The 16.5x8.75x6.5 mm crystal, pictured below, has a balanced
and elongated shape. The deep blown-out enhydro affects two facets
on this gemstone as well. Many small key marks scatter on a few
other faces near one tip. Clarity is also very good.
An interesting set of double terminated Herkimer Diamonds that
once each housed an enhydro.
