Both quartz crystals are double terminated with inclusions. Inclusions can be both healed fractures, trapped substances and growth occurrences. At some point during the gemstone's growth, a hesitation occurred. These occurrences give Herkimer Diamonds additional metaphysical properties. Sizes and descriptions of these crystals as follows:
- A 16.25x13.5x9.5 mm gemstone with 18 complete facets (pictured on the right in above pictures). The inclusions include cloudy wispy areas as well as a couple of bits of anthraxolite. One point has good clarity and form. The other cloudy and a bit marred. It gives the Herkimer a yin-yang quality. Rainbows are present as well.
- The double terminated points are sharper on this 20.5x15x11 mm quartz crystal. One of the two anthraxolite inclusions sets in a round divot and is completely round itself, really different. Clear external blemishes amplify the rainbows of the internal inclusions. A lily pad like inclusion comes to life when the crystal is viewed with a loupe.
A termination point occurs when six faces (or facets) join together to form a point. When this occurs on both ends, the crystal is double terminated. While a single terminated quart crystal is quite common, double terminated quartz is not. Unless you're a Herkimer Diamond that is!
