Two Herkimer Diamonds

Notes:

Both quartz crystals in this pair are twin crystals. Sizes and descriptions:

  • Two gumball shaped Herkimer Diamonds measuring 15.5x10x10 and 16x11.5x10.5 mm merged together to form this overall 18.5x14.5x11 mm twin crystal. It is pictured below. One of the gems has an external spattering of anthraxolite, giving it a smoky hue. The other crystal has a 4 mm double terminated bridge crystal near it's tip. It can be seen in the pictures. Internal inclusions give an overall cloudy appearance.
  • With the other twin crystal, measuring 19x19.75x12.25 mm, the crystals grew side to side. Each of the Herkimer's retained their double termination points (see pictures above). One measures 14.5x11.25, the other 19x14x11.5. At least 95% of the facets on these crystals are smooth and complete. Anthraxolite is found completely inside the gems. The overall clarity is cloudy, but the many healed fractures and imprints inside spark some showy rainbows. Some were captured in the pictures.

This pair different twin crystals each has it's own personality and charm. They are reflected well in the pictures.
