| Notes: |
This black Herkimer Diamond is covered in pockets of black anthraxolite. Anthraxolite is black fossilized organic matter from an ancient type of sea plant life. Possibly from large cabbage-
shaped seaweeds known as “Cryptozoon”. Anthraxolite is a relative of anthracite (coal).
Anthraxolite is present internally as well. Fairly good clarity is accented by smoky inclusions, giving it a deep hue.
A pocket of iron oxide, seen in the images, is external and could be removed. Those interested in the metaphysical consider this an attribute to the stone, adding golden healer properties to the crystal.
While it is just double terminated, it's rainbows, hue and tabby shape place this black diamond as C grade. |
