This is a fantastic D grade, double terminated quartz crystal. One point is a chisel tip, the other a sharp point that is blemished. A common termination point occurs when six faces (or facets) join together to form a point. An alternate is when the facets come together with a flat edge. This is not as common, and referred to as a chisel tip.
The shape of this crystal is interesting as well. It is narrow like a tabby. The front side is complete with large smooth facets. The back side has much contact markings where the stone formed against the matrix rock of dolomite.
A third of the stone has a deep smoky hue with fair clarity. Many strong rainbows glitter throughout this area.
This double terminated quartz crystal would make a good cabinet specimen. Weighing 8.8 oz./ 250 g., it sets nicely for display. |
