This generously sized Herkimer Diamond
has a double terminated bridge crystal extending from one of the facets.
A 'bridge' crystal is recognized as a smaller crystal which is part
in and part out of a larger crystal and can be seen in the pictures.
The longer crystal formed, or "flowed" around the smaller
crystal which was already completely formed.
Bridge crystals are a bit rare and a very nice addition to a collection.
The bridge crystal measures about 16x11.5 mm and is ½ in and
½ out of the larger Herkimer Diamond. A powdering of iron surrounds
the bridge, sort of outlining it inside. It gives it a bit of a golden
cast, but not as strong as the pictures show.
Black anthraxolite crystals sit within the bridge crystal as well
as other areas of the quartz specimen.
The large, or parent Herkimer Diamond has one large, sharp and complete
termination point. Quite a bit of marring is on the other. Overall,
less than 25% of the quartz is externally blemished.
Internal fractures are completely healed and many near the tip are
clear, sparking strong, dark rainbows.
It is a unique and high quality D
grade Herkimer Diamond. |
