A water clear bridge crystal nests in the facets of a larger Herkimer with excellent clarity.
A 'bridge' crystal is recognized as a smaller crystal which is part in and part out of a larger crystal. The larger crystal formed, or "flowed" around the smaller crystal which was already completely formed.
Bridge crystals are a bit rare and a very nice addition to a collection. The bridge crystal measures 11x9 mm and can be seen from both sides in the pictures above.
Both crystals are double terminated and well defined. Faces and lines are complete, clean and smooth. Next to the bridge is an eye visible window facet. A 'window facet' is recognized by a diamond-shaped facet or "window" located at an area where the facet lines should have come together in a point, but instead created an additional diamond shaped facet.
A self healed area can be seen in the pictures. A cloud of anthraxolite dust and a touch of iron oxide lay below the surface. This area reflects much more strongly in the pictures than in person.
Internally, a small clear growth occurrence sparks an occasional rainbow. When viewed with a loupe, a couple of clear solid growth developments can be seen. I believe they are the start of manifestation crystals.
This atypical Herkimer quartz bridge crystal is very large considering it's excellent clarity and double points. |
