This Herkimer has an unusual growth pattern called 'skeletal quartz'. A skeletal crystal grew very quickly, it was almost forced to grow. As this happened, the edge and the face growth alternated, resulting in a stepped down pattern. When the face growth occurred last it covered over the step pattern, giving the quartz a skeletal look inside.
The pattern can be seen in each of the faces leading to the sharp tip. Pastel rainbows flicker in all of the smooth faces as well.
The bottom of the Herkimer has a deep crevice (see images below). You can see deeply into the quartz.
This Herkimer skeletal quartz is a complete, well defined crystal.
