| Notes: |
Both these unusual Herkimer quartz crystal specimens are double terminated and have fantastic definition, key marks and overall.
A key mark is recognized by an indentation that is a three or six-sided shape located on the crystal, becoming more narrow as it steps into the crystal. It is used to unlock the doors to healing concepts and aides in answering questions about the self.
A key mark occurs where crystals grew together, but did not fuse. At the areas where the 2 crystals grew there is a pattern of geometric lines etched along the surface. Had the crystals grown this way, but fused themselves together, it would be referred to as a 'bridge' crystal. Sizes and descriptions:
- This Herkimer Diamond measures 8x6x4 mm and is water clear but for a small speck of internal dolomite (also rare) and an even smaller speck of anthraxolite. Two key marks are located on either side of the crystal. They are much better defined than the photos show.
- This 12x6x5 mm gemstone (photographed below) is definitely the more photogenic of the two. One large key mark covers one side of the Herkimer, it photographed well. Additionally, this water clear specimen has a small window facet (can be seen in the middle right photo below).
