A group of Herkimer Diamonds, each with unique key marks.
According to Melody, author of "Love is in the Earth", a key mark is recognized in the quartz crystal, by a six-sided indented shape which is located on a face of, or side of the crystal. It's an area where crystals grew against each other, at different times. The keyed crystal grew at a later date, around the original crystal; the step-like pattern indicating growth and separation. Metaphysical healers use them to unlock the doors to healing concepts and aides in answering questions about the self.
Sizes & descriptions:
- 13.75x10.5x8.5 mm / 5.58 ct. with a cluster of 3 tiny crystals surrounded by 4 well defined key marks. This crystal, pictured below, would have been part of a larger cluster.
- 14.5x10.5x8 mm / 5.87 ct. has a smooth divot, rather than a geometric key. The impression, seen in one of the pictures below, comes from a hydro that popped the facet during freezing and thawing of the ground.
- 14.75x9.5x7.75 mm / 6.21 ct. has a well defined geometric key. It steps into the stone where a well defined seed crystal is encased.
- 15.5x10.5x8.5 mm / 7.95 ct. with deep geometric keys covering 5 facets. Some specks of black hydrocarbon gives it a rich hue. A possible hydro has some of the specks trapped in a bubble, but I couldn't get them to move.
Each of these A grade Herkimer Diamonds are double terminated with excellent clarity. To really appreciate them, this interesting group of key crystals comes with a loupe !
Remember, when viewing crystals with a loupe, keep the loupe at your eye and move the crystal to focus. To keep them safe, they come in a corked top glass vial.
