Notes: |
A beautiful raw Herkimer Diamond, internally clean but
for a seed crystal. A seed crystal is a teeny double
terminated crystal completely encased in the larger gem.
The smaller, of course, formed first, and it is very
likely that these tiny baby crystals acted as seed hosts
for growing the larger Herkimer Diamonds later.
As befits any AA grade Herks, natural double terminations
are clean. A termination point forms when the six
facets (faces) of a crystal join together to form a tip.
The other end attaches itself to the matrix rock where it
formed, common for the majority of quartz crystals. A
Herkimer Diamond didn't grow by attaching itself to the
matrix, but rather repelled away from it. This allowed
both ends of the crystal to terminate. It is a rare
occurrence.
This raw Herkimer Diamond is water clear!
