The seed crystal inside this Herkimer Diamond is as clearly seen in person as it is in the pictures.
A seed crystal is a teeny double terminated Herkimer completely encased in the larger Herk. The smaller, of course, formed first, and it is very likely that these tiny baby crystals acted as seed hosts for growing the larger Herkimer diamonds later. It is part of the oil and seed crystal theory proposed by W. David Hoisington, Ph.D.
Other than the seed crystal, this Herkimer Diamond is internally clean.
But for a small hydrocarbon blemish near on tip, the exterior is clean as well. Two small window facets are present.
With it's awesome clarity, clean lines and facets, and defined seed crystal, this is a high quality Herkimer Diamond. |
