Spectacular! This crazy big Herkimer Diamond crystal has excellent clarity. Over 85% is water clear. It is a complete quartz specimen and the images show its many interesting characteristics.
Nestled amongst clear hopper and key markings are two water clear, double terminated bridge crystals.
A bridge crystal is recognized as a smaller crystal which is part in and part out of a larger crystal. These bridge crystals measure 6x3.5 mm and 8x6 mm. The larger has an extraordinary surprise - a tiny fluid filled seed crystal in it's center! Inside the seed crystal floats a tiny speck of hydrocarbon. Easily seen with the included loupe when you rock the stone gently back and forth.
A light trace of iron oxide surrounds the bridge crystals, casting a rich hue.
Overall the Herkimer Diamond has a deep smoky hue (not quite as intense as some of the images portray). This is attributed to the small specks of black hydrocarbon found at the sharp termination tip.
Other clear inclusions and bubbles are present, one of which strikes a strong rainbow.
The other termination of this impressive quartz specimen is a large chisel point. This type of termination is defined by a flat edge rather than a 'point'. It gives the crystal a cool 'Superman' shape.
It's a large complete double terminated quartz crystal with many large smooth facets. It fits and feels great in your palm.
With it's fluid filled seed inclusion, double terminated bridge crystals, smoky hue, crazy big size and excellent clarity, this is a remarkable Herkimer Diamond specimen.
