Large Herkimer penetration twin crystal.
A twin crystal (also called twinning) is recognized as two individual quartz crystals that have grown together to the extent that they have merged, but terminated separately. Twinned crystals may be contact twins or penetration twins. Contact twins typically have grown side to side and share a common facet point. With penetration twins the individual crystals grew point to point, as though they are passing through each other. A long smooth facet feels great where they come together the closest. It shows best in the photographs below.
So much is happening in this metaphysical specimen! In the larger of the twins, rainbows flash from the many healed fractures. View your crystals in bright light to see rainbows best.
Skeletal markings, seen in photos below. In metaphysical circles, it is believed that skeletal's will enhances the Herkimer's properties as a stone of attunement.
A clear smoky area is present as well as a small amount of iron oxide (golden healer properties).
The back side of the crystal grew against black hydrocarbon; it covers several facets.
The double termination points are sharp and complete.
The shape of this large metaphysical Herkimer twin crystal reminds me of a scepter. It is truly one of a kind!
