Notes:	A calcite crystal mined in the Herkimer Diamond district. Calcite is the third most common mineral (after dolomite and quartz) found in the area. It formed after the Herkimer quartz, and is found in several variations. This specimen has a fair to good crystal formation. The dark reddish color is due to the large amount of iron oxide in the region. An impression of a double terminated Herkimer is present on one face (image above shows it). This is a good example of a Herkimer calcite crystal.
