Notes: |
At almost 3 lbs., this is a large and interesting
Herkimer crystal specimen, as it shows two forms of
dolomite.
Dolomite is both a mineral and a rock. The mineral form is
dolomite crystals, also known as the dog's tooth crystals
found in small pockets in the rock. The rock, a
sedimentary limestone is referred to as dolomite,
dolostone or dolomitic limestone. The photos show
what a great representation of dolomite as both crystal
and rock. These dog's tooth crystals are very well
formed.
The Herkimer crystal is large as well. It measures
close to 20 mm and sets almost within the vug of dolomite
crystals. Black hydrocarbon is encased within
it. A brige crystal juts from one of its facets.
The back side of the specimen also holds a pocket of dog's
tooth crystal and Herkimer. It's a shame it has been
so damaged.
This large Herkimer and dolomite crystal specimen is extra
interesting when viewed with a loupe, which we are
including! (NOTE: When viewing with a loupe, place the
loupe directly at your eye and move the crystal to focus.)
